didnt do much on the last day at all, except to take a walk up to the castle ruins – lonely planet described it as a leisurely walk, but it was more like a hike in some parts!

i’ve seen many instances of pollution in my time here, but i can never stop being shocked by how you can see something like this right smack in the middle of a city/town in a developed country like japan:
and it’s not even a factory generating all these smoke – it’s actually an onsen!
one of the really nice things about takayama is that there are a few free footbaths outside the onsen ryokans that passersby can enjoy
i’m not sure why, but one of the pretty sights included this red bus for the art museum, which is either designed or inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a very famous scottish artist and architect – his style is everywhere in scotland. i recognised the artistic style on the bus instantly, and was rather proud of that. haha.
and finally, here’s a picture of gooseberries; my first time seeing live ones!
