the thing i love about summer is that there are so many festivals around. a few of us headed over to nara on the 14th to check out some lanterns, and though we didnt see much as we went down a bit late, it was gorgeous and we're definitely visiting nara again.
how can anyone not like nara? it's so completely japanese, and i think it's a great contrast to osaka. i went to kyoto yesterday and saw a bit of it (more on that later), but for the moment, i'd say that nara is prettier :) i'll have to see it properly in the day though, but i love it so far!
they have several areas where the lanterns are being displayed. here, there're arranged into certain patterns like a flower
and the olympics symbol
although nara is meant to be full of deer, we only saw one. and it was chewing on my friend's magazine, and was very very reluctant to let go. i was using my fan to lightly smack it on the head telling it to stop it and that the magazine is inedible, but it kept chewing. and it refused to let go despite us tugging on the magazine. and it wasnt even ingesting anything, just chewing only!
the shika-senbei that you can buy to feed the deer. i think the deer was actually more interested in the magazine than senbei though..
there were lots of stalls too! i love festival time!
