love is in the air – random pictures

now is right smack between Valentine’s Day and White Day, on the 14th of March. White Day is unique to Japan, where guys who received gifts from girls on Valentine’s Day reciprocate with something. As implied, Valentine’s Day in Japan is such that only girls give chocolates etc to guys.

at first glance, White Day seems like a nice idea, as a girl who has “invested” in a gift for a guy would be sure to receive something in return. unfortunately though, the chocolates, sweets and other products on sale for White Day are less elaborate, cheaper and not half as appealing as those in the shops for Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s day meant all sorts of belgian, french and other european chocolates from famous patisseries on sale – like pralines and other delectable stuff – as well as liquor-filled chocolates; White Day at my supermarket means more biscuits, cookies and marshmallows than chocolate, many hello kitty and winnie the pooh merchandise, as well as this:

it’s a poorly taken shot, but this box of 3 pieces of turd come with a plastic handle, so you can swing it like cartoon characters do with their little lunchboxes. i found it really amusing, but also very what-the-hell?-worthy. they’re really cute though..

and back when it was Valentine’s Day, Domino’s Pizza had this special offer for only 1300yen:

heart-shaped pepperoni pizza! it was enough to feed 2 people which makes about two-thirds of the price of a usual pizza. I’ve only tried Domino’s Pizza and Pizza Hut here, and i like Domino’s better, as they always send me coupons for my next online purchase. the above pizza only cost 1000yen after using the 15% discount coupon i received from my previous purchase, and it of course came with yet another 15% off coupon.

good stuff!
