pre-departure orientation

was held today at the Japan Embassy, and i got the chance to meet all the other singaporeans who are going (minus 1 or 2 who werent able to make it)!

there're 25 of us this year, and it's apparently the largest group to be sent on JET. to think that the first SOLO singaporean went on JET as recently as 9 years ago in 1999! and you know, everyone looks so young! most of them arent fresh grads, and many of them are (were?) teachers. the thing is, quite a few have been working for several years now, but you wouldnt be able to tell at all! they can pass off as fresh grads, and i didnt think for a moment that they're any older than i am. wonder how they have managed to keep their youth!

no one has been posted to osaka with me, although 3 are in Akita and 3 in Gifu as well. not sure why there're 3 of them in those prefectures, as i think they've generally been splitting up the Singaporeans so far (see here for detailed statistics of where the singaporeans have been posted). i'll be the only JET in Osaka prefecture and city!

i also discovered that we'll be checked into the Keio Plaza Hotel. It's very near Shinjuku station, and is listed in Lonely Planet as "high end", though the website states that it has won awards for being the most value-for-money hotel. no matter what, check out their deluxe and superior rooms - they look so beautiful! and woohoo - they apparently have FREE 24hr internet service!! as if i needed any more things to look forward to!
