den den town, the electronics and anime figurine haven of osaka city, had a street festa last week. it was quite interesting, with quite a lot of cosplayers, people in maid costumes and a short street parade. the nerds were all out and about, and you could differentiate the cosplayers who were there to have fun from the hardcore ones who were going about looking extremely serious about everything.
i forgot to bring my camera along, but i think my camera phone did a pretty good job of capturing the various sights of the day:
tetris block.. apparently its still rather big in japan!
there were so many people cosplaying as characters from deathnote:
i think this girl is WAYYYYY too young dressing up in a maid costume and camwhoring herself.. felt like a pedophile when taking her pic!
little kids participating in the parade..
its only in japan in den den town that you have companies advertising their products in a street parade! we felt that it was very odd to have blue ray players and (ugly) laptops participating in a street parade..
representatives from all the maid cafes in the area..
people in anime costumes were in the parade too
thomas the tank engine! didnt know its big in japan too..
guy in skintight outfit. check out his belly!
this is how the head of the mascot for nara looks like. its meant to be a monk with deer horns because nara is famous for deer and buddhist temples, especially the UNESCO world heritage site Todai-ji:
these 2 girls are apparently from final fantasy
this cosplayer is the coolest i think!
