went to the momfuku ando instant ramen museum the other day, and it basically is a museum informing visitors of how momofuku ando, the creator of instant ramen and NISSIN noodles, made instant noodles.
it's geared more towards kids, as the exhibits are brightly coloured and lit, and there were many school children when we were there. it's an informative enough museum, considering it's very specific, but the most fun aspect has to be the part where you get to design your own instant noodle cup and choose 4 ingredients to include in the cup.
i chose prawn, crab, cheese and pork, and you could see how the cup is sealed - just by heat actually - and bring home your 'creation' in an inflatable bag (air pumps are provided).
i should have taken a picture of the museum's 'cafe', as it seems, on hindsight, to represent a lot of what japan is all about - vending machines. the food available were, of course, a variety of instant noodles, and the drinks on sale were none other than a limited variety of vending machine drinks. unfortunately the hot water that was dispensed wasnt hot enough, hence my noodles werent as cooked as i'd like them to be. entertainment was - no prizes for guessing - a tape of about 8 nissin noodles advertisements on loop. i think i watched those advertisements at least 4 times while i was there having lunch.
the museum is in Ikeda City in Osaka prefecture, and it's actually a sort of nice place. quieter, calmer, prettier, and it has this really interesting poster, which neither of us who were there could understand. perhpas Ikeda City would like to appeal to foreigners to live there:
you'd have to admit that this 'family' somehow doesnt look quite right though..
