how to cook bamboo shoots

i dont know why, but i've been reading many posts on how to cook bamboo shoots, and the more i think about it, the more i feel i should note down these instructions, as i never know when they might come in handy. i'm not a fan of bamboo shoots as i think they only taste okay, but considering that 500yen can last me for 4 meals, it's probably a rather feasible dish to consume.

the preparation is a bit labour intensive though, as you can see from here and here (the latter comes with a video). this even comes with a few recipes.

i think it's also worth noting that seasonal vegetables are often readily available in japan, and one good and simple way to eat them is to turn them into tempura.
